EU High Representative Javier Solana said the following in a statement:
"I would like today to join with many others around the world in extending my sympathies once again to the families and friends of those who died in the tragic events which took place in Andizhan, Uzbekistan, on 12-13 May 2005.
It is with great regret that I note the continuing refusal of the Uzbek authorities to heed the calls of the EU and others for a credible investigation into those events.
I urge the Uzbek authorities to engage positively with the EU and others, and in adhering to the principles of respect for human rights, rule of law and fundamental freedoms, act in a manner consistent with its membership of the UN and the OSCE."
