Iran favourites to win Spring Cup after defeating Uzbekistan

Iran U-23 football team which is participating in the four-team Spring Cup football tournament in Hanoi (Vietnam), have gone to the top of the table after defeating Uzbekistan 2-0 on Tuesday. Ali Azim-Araghi

Iran’s star man was Ehsan Khorsandi who scored both goals in the 30th and 48th minute. In the other game played on Tuesday, Australia and Vietnam played out a 0-0 draw.

Iran had a 0-0 draw in its first game against Australia on Sunday.

Iran top the rankings with 4 points followed by Vietnam and Australia who have 2 points each. Uzbekistan are bottom with just one point. Iran will play against Vietnam on Thursday, needing a win to lift the Cup. On the same day Australia will meet Uzbekistan. All four countries are represented by their U23 squads.

The winners of the Spring Cup will get a trophy and US$40,000, while the runners-up will pocket US$20,000. The third-placed team will receive US$10,000.
