The United States has condemned Uzbekistan for its forcible psychiatric treatment of human rights activist Elena Urlayeva.
In a statement released Friday, the State Department said treating political dissidents as victims of psychosis is a tactic used by repressive regimes. It said Ms. Urlayeva had previously been subjected to forced psychiatric treatment.
A criminal court ordered the Uzbek human rights activist to undergo treatment on October 18th.
