New presidential adviser appointed

March 13Uzbek President Islam Karimov has signed a decree appointing Masharif Yusupov presidential state adviser.
As a representative of an older generation of cadres Yusupov used to work in various posts within the (Communist) party. He worked as a secretary of a district committee of the (Communist) party, and then as a secretary of the Andizhan regional committee of the Communist Party of Uzbekistan.
During the years of independence he worked as a deputy governor of (eastern) Andizhan Region, (and then) the head of a regional department for industry. In the last seven months he worked as the first deputy minister of agriculture and water resources.
In the post of the state adviser he has replaced Ismoil Jorabekov, who was in charge of agrarian issues.
