Internet makes possible “nonimmigrant visas while you wait”

U.S. Embassy
October 30

Those with access to the Internet and knowledge of English can now fill out visa application forms on-line. Applicants with DS-156 bar-coded e-visa forms can appear as early as 8:30 am or as late as 10:00 for their nonimmigrant visa interview.  Their application will be received and they will be interviewed expeditiously. IF APPROVED, applicants’ passport containing their US visa will be returned to them within a few minutes following their visa interview.

(NOTE: The non-barcode version of the DS-156 will NOT qualify applicants for expedited processing.  Only the e-forms at the Department of State web site will print a bar code, which is essential for this expedited processing).

Prior to the scheduled interview date, applicants can visit the State Department e-visa forms site: http://evisaforms.state.gov.  Having read the instruction on how to fill out e-forms an applicant must complete the electronic DS-156 form, filling out every box and answering every question, even if the question does not apply to him or her.  It is necessary to write “no” or “none” if it does not apply.  Some boxes will accept only numbers.  For these boxes applicants may write “no” or “none” on the form after they have printed the form. Applicants must print the form out and sign it.  Page 1 and 2 of the printed form will be the completed DS-156, Page 3 will be a sheet containing bar code, and applicants must take all three pages to the interview.

If required, applicants must print out and complete by hand or typewriter the additional DS-157 and DS-158 forms. DS-157 form must be submitted by male applicants between the age of 16 and 45. The DS-158 form must be submitted by applicants for F, J or M visas, students, exchange program participants and their dependent family members respectfully. Printable (non-barcode) versions of the DS-157 and DS-158 forms in Russian are available at www.usembassy.uz/consular.
