Solan buys stake in Uzbek call phone company

Solan International Communication Service of the UK has bought 54% of Tashkent Taksofony, which operates a network of call phones in the Uzbek capital, Anzor Kakashvili, the general director of Tashkent Taksofony, told the press.

Kakashvilii did not say how much the stake had cost, but he said Solan would invest $1.2 million over two years. Investment could reach $3 million by 2007.

Tashkent Taksofony is licensed to provide operator services for local and international calls throughout the country. However, it only operates in Tashkent, where it has 1,600 call phones.

Uzbektelecom owns 30% of the company and employees own 5%. The rest of the shares are held by minor sharheolders.
