Uzbekistan offers major stakes in Uzkabel, Ammofos

The Uzbek state property committee has announced tenders offering 64% of the Uzkabel cable plant, and 51% of Ammofos, a fertilizer producer, a source in the committee told Interfax.

Bids will be accepted from foreign investors until December 10 2003.

The starting price for Uzkabel shares is $13.82 million. The shares are offered in a repeat tender. In 2000, the committee offered foreign investors 39% of the company and then raised the stake to 51%.

Charter capital is 344.175 million sum. The government owns 64%, employees 8.34% and minority shareholders 27.66%.

The starting price for Ammofos shares is $18.87 million. Maxwll Stamp PLC of the UK is the financial consultant for the privatization.

Charter capital is 4.939 billion sum. The government wholly owns the company. The official exchange rate on October 14 stood at 975.16 sum/$1.
