Uzbek insurers collect 50% more premiums

October 10Insurance companies in Uzbekistan collected 19 billion sum in premiums in January-September 2003, up 50% year-on-year, deputy chief of the state insurance watchdog Miradyl Mirsadykov told Interfax. The share of voluntary types of insurance rose from 81.2% to 88%.
Insurance pay outs dropped 20% to 1.6 billion sum. The figure dropped because of the good grain harvest, he said.
Uzbekistan has 20 insurance companies, consolidated charter capital of 9.9 billion sum and capital of about 60 billion sum. The official exchange rate on October 9 stood at 975.16 sum/$1.
