Uzbekistan plans to raise a $25 million loan from the Asian Development Bank in 2004 for a project to improve drinking water supply in the Navoi and Karshi regions, a source in the government told Interfax.

An ADB mission will visit Uzbekistan at the end of the year to evaluate the project and develop the loan terms.

The government plans to provide centralized water supply to over 450 rural areas, building 210 km waterways with the capacity to produce 300,000 cubic meters of water a day.

Uzbekistan is currently involved in several major projects with international financial institutes to improve drinking water supply.

The ADB has disbursed $715.5 million for 14 projects in Uzbekistan since 1995.
