Bush nominates Jon Robert Purnell as new ambassador to Uzbekistan

President Bush has nominated Jon Robert Purnell, a diplomat from Massachusetts, to be ambassador of Uzbekistan.

His nomination, announced by the White House on Monday, must be approved by the Senate.

Purnell currently serves as minister counselor for political affairs at the U.S. Embassy in Moscow. Previously, he served as senior inspector with the office of the inspector general for the State Department. Before that, Purnell was deputy chief of mission at the U.S. embassy in Almaty, Kazakhstan. He earned his bachelor's degree from Brown University and his master's degree from Harvard University.
