Uzbekistan introduces advance payments for natural gas

Uzbekistan started charging obligatory advance payments on natural gas starting from November 1 on all categories of consumers, excluding the population, the Uzbekneftegaz national holding company told Interfax.

The government resolution aimed at improving management of the country's gas supplies system has set advance payment at 15% of the monthly volume of natural gas consumption.

Deliveries will be stopped to wholesale natural gas consumers who fail to make advance payments before gas supplies start to arrive or do not make final settlements in due time.

Uzbekneftegaz said that these steps are intended to improve the financial situation for companies involved in supplying natural gas to the domestic market, as well as to reduce debts on natural gas shipments.
