Uzbekistan's GDP grows 2.2% in first quarter 2003

Gross domestic product of Uzbekistan increased 2.2% in the first quarter of 2003 compared to the similar period of 2002. Real incomes of the population increased 12%.

This was announced at the Uzbek Cabinet meeting on Wednesday devoted to the country's economic development in January-March 2003. Prime Minister Otkir Sultanov chaired the meeting.

The average monthly inflation rate in the reporting specific made up 1.7% against 2.7% last year.

Positive foreign trade balance amounted to $270 mln.

The volume of capital investments in the reporting period comprised 254 bn soums.

Revenues from privatisation made up 11 bn soums.

Growth of consumer goods comprised 2%, which was called unsatisfactorily.
