October 19The officially registered level of migration in Uzbekistan is 1.5m people but there are no report on its illegal forms, the newspaper Pravda Vostoka reported on 19 October.
The officially registered level of migration in Uzbekistan is 1.5m people but there are no reports on illegal forms of migration. Reports say that there are cases of selling people with the purpose of using them on labour or sex markets. There are many women among them. These modern forms of slavery and violence should be rooted out and prosecuted.
A survey of 500 women in two districts of the city of Tashkent, conducted by the Women's Resource Centre, showed that the majority of them knew about illegal migration but they did not know much about the negative sides of this phenomenon.
While 87 per cent of them knew about labour migration, 78 per cent of them did not know about the illegal export of people with the purpose of exploiting them.
The report also warned readers to be cautious about announcements posted in streets by various firms.
"The inspections of announcements have revealed that people from these firms do not have licences, they do not even go along with Uzbek laws. Those girls and young women who are enticed by attractive proposals are becoming victims of shady businesses in United Arab Emirates, the USA, Korea, Malaysia and some other countries instead of working at prestigious establishments," it said.
