Gang detained in Uzbekistan

October 10An international gang involved in stealing cars in Tajikistan and exchanging them for heroin has been detained in Uzbekistan, the Uzbek Prosecutor General Office's press service told Interfax on Thursday.
Officials from the Prosecutor General's Office, the National Security Service and Tashkent's police discovered and detained a gang involved in stealing cars.
The press service noted that the gang has been active since 1999. It committed its last crime in January 2002. The gang is implicated in a total of 23 car thefts and four murders.
A total of 14 people were detained. They are citizens of Uzbekistan, Ukraine and Tajikistan. Most of them are drug addicts, the press service said.
A criminal case has been sent to court.
