Undefeated welterweight contender Mohamad Abdulaev stopped Juan Antonio Lopez at 2:35 of the first round at Cobo Hall.

Abdulaev, a 2000 Olympian for Uzbekistan, used a right uppercut to send Lopez to the canvas for third time on Saturday night.

Abdulaev improved to 10-0 with his eighth knockouts, while Lopez dropped to 18-3-1.

Four seconds into the fight, Abdulaev's right cross knocked Lopez down for the first time. Lopez offered little resistance, as Abdulaev worked his body with several stinging combinations.

Midway through the round, Lopez managed to keep Abdulaev off him briefly with a stiff jab. But at 1:58, Abdulaev used an overhand right to drop Lopez for a second time.

In the co-main event, Ruslan Chagaev and Rob Calloway fought to a technical draw in a heavyweight bout.

Chagaev had opened a cut over Calloway's right eye in the second round, and appeared to stop Calloway in the third.

But after Calloway was counted out, the referee ruled that the fight was a technical draw and not a knockout. A technical draw is ruled when two fighters accidentally butt heads, but usually the fight is stopped immediately.
