Uzbek, German foreign ministers discuss cooperation

On Tuesday German Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer began his visit to Uzbekistan. The German was received by his Uzbek counterpart, Abdulaziz Komilov.

During the meeting, Komilov has said that relations between Uzbekistan and Germany were stable and that mutually advantageous cooperation between the two countries was well under way almost in all fields.

The sides focused their attention on the issues of guaranteeing stability in the region and cooperation between countries of the world in the fight against international terrorism.

The German delegation includes members of the German Bundestag's Defence Committee and Foreign Affairs Committee. The meeting at the Uzbek Foreign Ministry has created favourable grounds for the deelegation to talk to Uzbek MPs and exchange views on further strengthening interparliamentary relations between the two countries.

The delegation led by Fischer visited Afghanistan on Tuesday and held talks with government officials there.

The German Minister will host next Monday a one-day follow-up conference on peace and reconstruction in Afghanistan at the Petersberg Castle near Bonn, one year after warring Afghan factions signed a historic peace agreement at the same site.
