Uzbek leader meets regional speakers to discuss security, closer ties

Uzbek President Islam Karimov received the parliamentary speakers of the countries party to the Central Asian Cooperation Organization CACO Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan at the Oqsaroy presidential palace in the capital of Tashkent on Monday.

The CACO parliaments were represented at the talks by: The speaker of Kazakhstan's Majlis the lower chamber of parliament, Zharmakhan Tuyakbay; the chairman of Kyrgyzstan's Legislative Assembly the lower chamber of parliament, Abdygan Erkebayev; the deputy head of that country's Assembly of People's Representative the upper chamber, Sooronbay Dzheenbekov; the speaker of Tajikistan's National Assembly the upper house of parliament, Mahmadsaid Ubaydulloyev; and the head of that country's Assembly of Representatives the lower house, Saydullo Khayrulloyev.

Welcoming the guests, the Uzbek president, Islam Karimov, laid particular emphasis on the fact that the unconventional nature of the talks was because of the goals and tasks facing the CACO, resolution of which is in the interests of people living in the region. The question at issue is future integration among our nations.

The need has arisen to form an effective legal basis that would regulate relations in all areas of activity. Here, our parliamentarians have a major role to play, and they will have to maintain close contact and work hard on the necessary documents.

The talks also touched upon questions associated with the development of the situation in the region, namely ensuring regional security and political and economic stability.
