A delegation headed by Ronald Noble, the secretary-general of the International Criminal Police Organization, or Interpol, visited Uzbekistan on Monday.

On their arrival in the Uzbek capital Tashkent the guests went on a sightseeing tour of the city, and visited the Jar sport and health complex under the Ministry of Internal Affairs and a lyceum. They also went to Interpol's Tashkent office, where they got acquainted with the working conditions created there.

It is a known fact that data supplied by this organization is of great significance in the fight against organized crime, and the illegal drug trade in particular. Uzbekistan constantly cooperates with Interpol in this respect, since Uzbekistan borders on Afghanistan - a major drug-growing centre. That is why improving work in this sphere is of considerable importance, not only for Uzbekistan but also for all peace-loving nations.

Ronald Noble: "The main purpose of our visit is, above all, to thank the Uzbek people, since Uzbekistan not only closely cooperating with us but is also the first Central Asian state to introduce the new Interpol information system."
