Thailand U14 football team thrashed Uzbekistan 7-0 in the last preliminary round of the AFC U14 Festival of Football at Supachalasai Stadium yesterday.

Despite their heavy defeat Uzbekistan will face Thailand again in tomorrow's final after finishing second in the league table.

With the two teams having already qualified for the final before yesterday's match, both sides rested many of their best players, but the result will give the Thai boys a big psychological advantage for the final.

Thailand looked the stronger side from the start but it wasn't until the 26th minute when they opened their account with Saharad Klinkamnerd scoring from close range.

Four minutes later it was 2-0 following a goal from defender Kornpom Jaroonpong.

In the second half Thailand piled on the pressure and it was all one-way traffic with another five goals for the Thai squad.

On target for Thailand were Sakarin Chanyotha (2), Teerasil Dangpa (2) and Saranyoo Intharat.

In yesterday's other match, Malaysia and Kyrgyzstan drew 0-0 and will meet again in tomorrow's third place playoff.

Football Association of Thailand secretary general, Worawi Makudi has been appointed by Fifa to be in charge of all referees in the world until the 2006 World Cup in Germany.

``It is a great opportunity for me,'' said Worawai. ``It is also good for Thai football.''

He said Fifa's aim was to create quality referees around the world.
