Mini-reservoirs under construction in Uzbek Aral Sea area

project is being carried out in Moynoq District [in the northwestern Uzbek autonomous Republic of Karakalpakstan] to erect mini-reservoirs along the shoreline of the Aral Sea, in the delta of the River Amu Darya. It is financed through the World Bank by the International Foundation for the Salvation of the Aral Sea, the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and a Dutch trust foundation.
Building and erection work is being done by the joint-stock company Muynak suu kurylys [Muynak water construction].
Once the construction has been completed, sewage will be accumulated and fill small and large lakes such as Rybachiy Zaliv and Taityr bas, making it possible to restore fishery in the District, develop muskrat and livestock breeding, and agriculture. Construction men will also build two reinforced concrete overflow dams and a water-carrying installation with a capacity of 44 cu. m. per hour in a canal.
