Uzbek president, US congressmen discuss security, military cooperation

resident Islam Karimov received eight-strong US delegation led by Duncan Hunter, the chairman of the House Subcommittee on Military Procurement, at the Oqsaroy presidential residence on Friday. The US delegation from the House of Representatives comprise members from committees on agricultural, science, small-and medium sized businesses, natural resources and banking issues.
Having welcomed the visitors, President Islam Karimov said that he regarded the US congressmen's visit to Uzbekistan as an important political event. He highly praised the United States' great contribution to crushing the international terrorism machine. He asked the delegation to convey a message of greetings and respect for the US people and the president from Uzbekistan, a country which is in favour of putting an end to terrorism.
During the talks the parties discussed the present state of Uzbek-US relations, prospects for future cooperation, regional security, military and technical cooperation, and many other issues.
