centralized system of processing citizens' exit visa applications has been introduced in Uzbekistan.
The advantage of the new service offered by the Tashkent city police department's civil affairs department is that now citizens will not have to go to several different places for various formalities to get an exit visa and can obtain it in one building.
While in 2000, more than 30,800 citizens applied for visas for tourist or business trips abroad, the figure rose to 38,982 in 2001. Obviously, it takes a considerable amount of time to deal with so many applications. The use of the centralized computer system makes the process much easier. There is even a cash desk operating here where people can pay the duties involved. Each city district has its own separate reception room. A visa was issued in 15 days under the 1995 visa law of the Cabinet of Ministers, whereas now the process takes only 10-12 days with the help of the centralized system.
Another important point is that there is a service offering citizens advice on how to fill in forms correctly.
