Tajik government delegation led by Prime Minister Oqil Oqilov arrived in the Uzbek capital Tashkent on 12 February. The delegation is made up of the heads of the Ministry of State Revenues and Tax Collections, the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Transport [and Roads], the Ministry of Land Reclamation and Water Resources, a border department and administrations of regions bordering on Uzbekistan.
The press service of the Cabinet of Ministers told Asia-Plus that a number of bilateral intergovernmental agreements for 2002 had been signed as a result of talks with Uzbek Prime Minister Otkir Sultonov and other Uzbek government officials.
These are agreements "On cooperation in the rational use of water and energy resources for 2002", "On state border checkpoints", "On terms of restructuring promissory notes between Tajikistan and Uzbekistan" and "On mutual payments for freight transportation and the supply of gas and lubricants in 2002, and on Tajikistan's state debt".
An agreement on writing off Tajikistan's 12m-dollar state debt to Uzbekistan had been reached earlier at the talks between the Tajik and Uzbek presidents, which were held during Tajik President Emomali Rahmonov's official visit to Tashkent in December 2001.
