A trade mission from Uzbekistan is visiting Madison Wednesday in an effort to forge business partnerships with U.S. producers and suppliers of equipment and technologies, the U.S. Department of Commerce said.

The trade mission, hosted by the Commerce Department, is led by senior government officials, including Trevor Gunn, director of the Business Information Service for the Newly Independent States.

The agency is a U.S. government market information center for U.S. companies exploring business opportunities in Russia and other newly independent states.

The delegation from Uzebekistan is headed by the Shakhlo Abdullaeva, deputy chairman for the Agency for Foreign Economic Relations, the principal government agency responsible for foreign economic relations. The 22-member delegation also includes business representatives from a range of industries, including Internet, food, retail, telecommunications, agriculture, printing, construction and financial services.

Participants in the trade mission also include the Export-Import Bank of the United States, an independent federal agency that assists in financing the export of U.S. goods and services to developing markets around the world. The agency supports trade by reducing U.S. exporter risk through export credit insurance, loan guarantees and direct loans.
