The people of Uzbekistan believe that President Islam Karimov is successful in ensuring the observance of the country's constitution, according to a poll conducted by the Uzbek Centre for Sociological Research. The poll was conducted prior to the celebration of the 10th anniversary of the Constitution of Uzbekistan (8 December). "The people of Uzbekistan give very high marks to the president's work to ensure that the Constitution is observed," the centre's release reads.

Not one of the respondents was negative about the president's work towards ensuring the observance of the constitution, which "shows the high level of the citizens' trust in the president".

The overwhelming majority of respondents called the president "a guarantor of the constitutional system of the Republic of Uzbekistan".

Ninety-four per cent of the respondents believe that the current constitution effectively serves the interests of all of the country's citizens.

The majority of the respondents surveyed (71 per cent) believe that people have become much more serious about law and civil rights since the constitution was adopted ten years ago. Most of the respondents said they feel they are protected by the law.
