Uzbek leader says USA helped when CIS partners could not

he US has done for Uzbekistan what its CIS partners could not do, Uzbek President Islam Karimov has said.
He told reporters yesterday that the US's help came at a time when Uzbekistan and its people faced the threat of an armed intrusion by the Taleban from Afghanistan and armed bandit groups from Tajikistan over the past five years.
"Only the US, its resolve and well-trained armed forces, and not the participants of the CIS Collective Security Treaty played a decisive role in the abolition of tension and danger on southern frontiers of Uzbekistan," Karimov said.
