he Taleban regime has given different international terrorist organizations, fighting to overthrow the clerical regimes in Central Asia, a chance to entrench themselves in Afghanistan, Chairman of the National Security Service of Kyrgyzstan Bolot Dzhanuzakov stated here today, addressing an international conference on the strategy of fighting terrorism and its political and legal instruments.
According to Dzhanuzakov, these organizations include also the so-called Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan (IMU) whose men have received ideological and military training on Taleban-controlled territory. They tried with Taleban backing to fight their way into Kyrgyzstan in 1999 and 2000 to set up there in the Fergana Valley a new state - an Islamic caliphate.
Dzhanuzakov believes that several preconditions are necessary for the emergence and activity of international terrorist organizations: access to money and armaments, military training, and dependable refuge in this or that country. The Taleban, he added, have created such conditions for many terrorist organizations, including IMU, Hezb-eTahrir, etc.
Enjoying the backing of Usamah Bin-Ladin and his associates, many international terrorist organizations have joined the Taleban movement and are now fighting the Northern Alliance, Dzhanuzakov noted.
According to the information he now possesses, there are today about 5,000-7,000 Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan men fighting for the Taleban.
