Russian President Vladimir Putin, in a telephone conversation on Saturday [17 November], told his Uzbek counterpart Islam Karimov about talks he had recently with US President George W. Bush.

Putin dwelt in the greatest detail on a discussion of terrorism between him and Bush, the Kremlin press service told Interfax.

"In the spirit of a dialogue marked by mutual trust, [Putin and Karimov] had a new exchange of opinions in connection with the latest developments in Afghanistan and discussed prospects for a political settlement in that country and aspects of interaction as regards the Afghan issue," the press service said.
