Uzbekistan and European Union equally estimate political situation round Afghanistan

The European community highly appreciates the Uzbek position towards the antiterrorist operation in Afghanistan, the Chairman of Council of the European Union (EU), Belgian Foreign Minister Lui Michele said while commenting the results of his visit to Tashkent.

The Chairman said that at the meeting with the Uzbek President Islam Karimov political situation in the region, the Afghan future, the US activities in the antiterrorist operation, the way of rendering humanitarian aid to Afghanistan and issues of cooperation development between the EU and Uzbekistan were discussed. The sides expressed equal opinion that "the coalition government represented by all ethnic groups should be established in the post-conflict Afghanistan, and this government should direct its efforts on establishing peaceful Afghanistan." Besides, the European official emphasized the main role of the UN. Touching upon the perspectives of development of relations between the European Union and Uzbekistan, Lui Michele said that during the negotiations "the technological exchange, assistance to Uzbekistan in sphere of health protection were discussed." He also stressed the necessity of establishing legal grounds for attracting the European investments to the Republic.
