Uzbekistan does not rule out the possibility of granting access to the Hayraton bridge for shipment of humanitarian aid to Afghanistan, Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Komilov said at a press conference on Wednesday [31 October]. The bridge is situated on the Uzbek-Afghan border.

The passage might be opened for relief cargoes, but only after the situation in northern Afghanistan stabilizes, Komilov noted.

Komilov said that he and the chairman of the European Union Council of Ministers, Belgian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Louis Michel, discussed prospects for a government in Afghanistan to be established after the Taleban regime is toppled.

The future government should include all ethnic groups in Afghanistan. "The Northern Alliance doubtless plays an important role in Afghanistan, but it cannot dominate it," he said.

Speaking of all ethnic groups, "we mean Pashtuns" who, in turn, are included among the Taleban, he stressed.
