he joint armed forces are conducting planned training exercises in
Uzbekistan's south. The tactics of conducting search and reconnaissance
operations are being practised in barely accessible mountainous areas, at
an altitude of almost 4,000 metres. The command staff are testing new
methods of supervising military actions.
The regular exercises are being conducting in particularly difficult
conditions. Tactical operations are being carried out in barely accessible
mountainous areas right next to the borders. Journalists are for the first
time being allowed to observe the joint exercises, which involve special
brigades of the Defence Ministry, the Interior Ministry and the Border
Troops. The head of the armed forces' united command staff, Col-Gen Tolqin
Qosimov, said that the aim of the current exercises is to train the
subdivisions in tactics of carrying out search and reconnaissance
operations, blockading and eliminating terrorist groups. The exercises are
being conducted in three stages, and real search and reconnaissance actions
are being carried out in the area of operations.
What makes the current exercises different from previous ones is a new
tactic of conducting search and reconnaissance operations, new methods of
organizing and supervising them. It should be noted that they involve
soldiers other than servicemen doing military service, that is, those who
have already been through military service and who are therefore well aware
of military affairs.
Timur Agzamov, a group head: "The command staff have been paying great
attention to moral and psychological support for the troops involved.
Military and military and moral support is a whole package for influencing
the consciousness and psychology of the troops, which helps them carry out
military tasks successfully. First and foremost, a great deal of attention
is being paid to training the troops to be patriots of Uzbekistan."
One of the main missions at this stage of the exercises is
to drill interaction between subdivisions. Officers think the task has been
gradually fulfilled. The training exercises are being carried out in a
coordinated and organized manner, which is necessary in battle.
Agzamov: "The troops have been distributed according to areas and what these
areas specialize in. At the same time they are all coordinated, that is,
the search and reconnaissance groups interact between themselves. We all
share a single communications system, a single supply system and a single
armaments system. These work successfully thanks to interaction between us."
The exercises are being conducted high in
the mountains and for the first time the river fleet is being used to
transport landing forces.
Capt (Second Rank) Roziboy Umarov: "It takes 12-15 hours
to transport a landing force and arms supplies to the location of
operations along passes. On foot. Other military hardware is impossible to
transport there. To solve this problem border launches came to our
assistance. Their mission is to transport troops, landing forces, arms and
hardware and others. Thanks to this, it now takes an hour for landing
forces to get to the location of tactical operations."
