Uzbek foreign minister attends Kabul inauguration ceremony

Adelegation of Uzbekistan, led by Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Komilov, attended the ceremony of transferring power from Afghan President Borhanoddin Rabbani to the head of the interim government Hamed Karzai in Kabul on Saturday [22 December].

The Uzbek delegation arrived in Kabul at the invitation of the Afghan interim government, the Uzbek Foreign Ministry has told Interfax.

Komilov held talks with Karzai, Rabbani, Afghan Foreign Minister Dr Abdollah and the leaders of the delegations of Iran, Pakistan, Belgium and other countries.

Karzai thanked Uzbek President Islam Karimov for his support for the peace process in Afghanistan and his efforts to strengthen regional security and stability. He said his government was determined to establish relations of friendship and cooperation with neighbouring Uzbekistan.
