Uzbek president welcomes work of US company in energy sector

President Islam Karimov of Uzbekistan received the president of the US ABB Lummus Global Inc., Stephen Solomon, at his Oqsaroy residence on December 14.

Among other big projects the construction project of the Shurtan gas chemical complex [southern Kashkadarya Region], which is able to produce 125,000 t of polyethylene, 137,000 t of liquefied gas and 126,000 t of gas condensate annually, was drawn up in October 1995. The project is worth more than 650,000 dollars.

The president of the US ABB Lummus Global Inc., Stephen Solomon, thanked President Islam Karimov and other government establishments, in particular the Uzbek Oil and Gas company for preparing a report on the project and for helping implement it.

President Islam Karimov said that he knew Stephen Solomon to be a distinguished international expert in his field and added that the project would serve to develop Uzbekistan's economy and had great political significance as well.
