Uzbekistan merges four central Districts into two

The Parliament of Uzbekistan has adopted a resolution to merge four districts into two: Payariq District with Chelak District and Pastdarghom District with Gozalkent District. All four districts belong to Samarkand Province.

The resolution says that this was done "in order to make more effective and rational use of the economic potential, the social infrastructure and the labour and material resources of these districts"

Payariq and Chelak Districts will form Payariq District, which will total 1,290 sq.km in area;

Pastdarghom and Gozalkent Districts will form Pastdarghom District, which will total 870 sq.km in area.

Payariq District: the town of Payariq and the settlements of Gulistan, Qorasu, Kokdala, Qultosin, Sanoat and Choshtepa in the abolished Poyariq District; and the town of Chelak and the settlements of Oqqorghon, Birlashkan, Oytamgali, Choporashli and Ortasaydov in the abolished Chelak District.

Pastdarghom District: the town of Juma, the settlements of Arabkhona, Bolotosh, Dimishkibola, Namuna, Sanchiqul, Saribosh, Torariq, Turon, Khamzaobod, and the village of Charkhin in the abolished Pastdarghom District; and the settlements of Ankhor, Beshqakhramon, Gozalkent and Chimboy in the abolished Gozalkent District.

The town of Payariq will be the centre of Payariq District, and the town of Juma will be the centre of Pastdarghom District.
