The state attorney Wednesday proposed to the Prague Municipal Court that it decide that the extradition of Uzbek dissident Mohammed Solih to Uzbekistan is not admissible, the Flashnews internet daily said on Wednesday, citing Martin Omelka, the spokesman to the Prague state attorney's office.

The state attorney is of the view that his extradition would conflict with Czech law.

On Tuesday [11 December], Solih was released from custody. Now the court is to decide on whether to extradite him to Uzbekistan where he is facing charges of terrorism. "One of the obstacles of Solih's extradition is that he was granted asylum in Norway. Second, Uzbekistan has not been assessed as a safe country," Omelka said.

This means that if he were extradited to Uzbekistan, "he would not be treated according to international rules about the protection of human rights," he added.

Czech authorities took Solih into custody on the basis of a warrant for his arrest issued by Interpol at the initiative of Uzbekistan.
