AIDS increasing in Uzbekistan

Areport devoted to World AIDS Day says that in 2000 there were 197 people in Uzbekistan infected with HIV and in the first 10 months this year the figure rose to 585 people, aged between 15 and 29. Of these 30 people have already died.

Uzbekistan is a country where the spread of HIV infection is comparatively low, however the situation is not so good, the figures are increasing.

Currently, there are 15 AIDS centres, 92 diagnostic laboratories and 114 confidential centres operating in the republic.
